Joey watches honey bees at work on clover and dandelion blossoms. The recurring ant appears peeking from under a clover. There's also a four leaf clover to be found. Gouache on watercolor paper.
The bumble bee arrives on the scene with an eye on the flower garden, and with unsuspecting, innocent little Joey down below watching a butterfly. Gouache on watercolor paper.
Joey encloses the bumble bee inside a lily.
This is a view of the bumble bee bewildered inside the lily, crouched on the pistil. His captor can be seen in the background peering in through a small separation in the petals.
Joey waves to his shadow and his shadow waves back. Gouache on Bristol.
After some shake ups, the bumble bee gets angry, sitting on the end of the pistil fuming. Pencil on Bristol.
Joey starts to think of other things to do, anything else besides holding the flower closed any longer. Thought clouds drift into clouds in the sky overhead. Gouache on watercolor paper.
"...then the bee shot out of the flower like a blunderbuss ball with stripes." Gouache on Bristol.
Joey turned and ran to the house as fast as he could. The ant watches the flailing aglets and flurry of dandilion seeds left in the wake. The bee is right on his heels, reflected in the drop of sweat just clearing his shoe. Gouache on Bristol.
With curiosity exceeding sense, Joey just had to turn for one more look. An ant observes from the screen door. Gouche on Bristol.
