Scorpio with Shrimp Boats, Galveston
Gouache, 2001, 20"x14"
I spent a couple of years traveling to Galveston on business. After work I would often drive over to one of the more remote beaches and take a hike at night. I found that the little lights out on the water moving back and forth near the horizon were shrimp boats. One night I had a very clear view of Scorpio, a constellation I don’t get to see, at least so completely, in Georgia. In this picture, the tail of Scorpio is below the horizon, but shrimp boats are juxtaposed where the stars would be. I was playing a bit with the vision of stars falling into the sea.
