Room With No Walls II
Oil on Canvas, 1989, 40"x33.5"
I had spent several years creating numerous paintings of an imaginary room defined by a window on a wall to the side and slightly opened door on the wall opposite the viewer. At one point, Julie, my niece, inquired about the room I was painting and in our discussion, I said that I will have grown when I paint my way out of the room. With this in mind, I did a pen and ink sketch and then two paintings where I kept the window and door as if the room existed, but removed the floor, ceiling and walls, leaving nothing but the cosmos. The mystery is in the stars showing on the other side of (or are they going through) the door. Another earlier version of this was done the same year in a smaller scale.
